A first-time client walking in because her usual stylist is away should be looked after exactly like a regular. A brief as loose as "colour my whole head, maybe some highlights" should come back flattering, not fashionable-for-a-week. And the wash before it all — the deep, unhurried head massage at the basin — should be good enough that people mention it by name.
